A few years ago, Ilim was the first company in Russia's forestry sector to implement a satellite tracking system for wood deliveries by installing the so-called black boxes on its log trucks in Koryazhma.

The system comprises in-built GPS receivers which determine the coordinates of harvesting machinery and log trucks with a high accuracy and in any weather by receiving signals from the GPS satellites. The coordinates received are constantly recorded by the black box with a volatile memory medium. The tracking system is capable of capturing all movements of a vehicle or, selectively, for example, the movements in the past day. Moreover, its design prevents anyone except the owner from accessing the information relative to the vehicles through the use of passwords providing access to the black box.
